Neogen Australasia offers DNA testing solutions for stud breeders, commercial producers and goat researchers in the Asia Pacific region and beyond.
The GGP Goat 70K consists of approximately 70,000 SNPs including 34,000 SNPs of base content developed by the International Goat Genome Consortium who screened whole genome sequencing data in the following goat breeds: Alpine, Boer, Creole, Katjang, Saanen, and Savanna. Additionally, approximately 40,000 SNPs were chosen using more than 400 fully sequenced animals from a wide range of breeds and countries of origin.
The GGP Goat 70K was developed for genomic selection and pedigree verification in goats including fibre, dairy and meat herds.
SNP information is applied for parentage verification and is much larger and more accurate than microsatellites. Proof of pedigree can increase the genetic value of one’s herd by identifying kids with high breeding worth and reducing the risk of inbreeding. It’s also a way to maintain up-to-date records with full parentage on young stock.
The GGP Goat 70K is also a great tool for research purposes and genomic selection – it is an effective tool for researching the genetic makeup of goat populations and selecting the best breeding animals for research projects.
