Neogen Team Makes Strong Showing at Beef Australia 2024

Attended by: Genomics Territory Managers, Chris Hoffmann (VIC & TAS) Harrison Stewart (QLD), Hannah Powe (NSW), Genomics Sales Manager, Hannah Bourke, Genomics Technical Product Specialist, Andrew Byrne, Animal Safety Sales Manager, Jessica McCabe & other support team members.

Neogen was well represented at Beef Australia 2024, with a dozen team members including special guest, Director of Genetics Product Development, JR Tait sharing booth duties, meeting with customers, and attending presentations.

This major week-long event draws tens of thousands of visitors from across Australia and around the world and is attended by everyone from interested onlookers through to key policy makers, up to and including the Prime Minister.

Over the course of the week, the Neogen team held DNA meet-and-greets with various breed society partners, attended seminars, participated in Beef TV and hosted many producers at our booth.

Beef Australia is often used as a platform for businesses to promote new products and to make big announcements. Neogen was no exception, being involved in three significant collaborations promoted at the event.

World Angus Forum Announces Partnership with Neogen

Beef 2024 provided the first opportunity for Angus Australia to announce that Neogen will be the naming rights sponsor of the World Angus Forum to be held in Brisbane in 2025. This is easily the largest sponsorship agreement for Neogen in this part of the world and reflects the relationship we have with one of the most prominent breed associations in the country.

New Genomic Test for Northern Beef Cattle Launched at Beef Australia

We were also involved in the launch of RePRO BI, a new multi-breed genomics test designed for tropical beef and marketed by Black Box Co. Neogen will be the preferred genotyping partner for RePRO BI and supported its development as suppliers to the Northern Genomics Project conducted by the University of Queensland. To learn more about RePro BI contact either Black Box or Neogen QLD Territory Manager Harry Stewart.

Big Announcement for Commercial Cattle Herds

The Agricultural Business Research Institute announced a new DNA-Only genetic evaluation product for commercial cattle herds. In partnership with Herefords Australia and Neogen, BreedPlan Select has been described as the biggest addition to BreedPlan in over 50 years.

The introduction of Direct Genomic Values (DGVs) integrated with Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) allows a comprehensive understanding of both bulls and dams. BreedPlan Select is expected to be available to Hereford breeders by the end of the year and then rolled out to other breeds.

To learn more about BreedPlan Select visit the ABRI website.

Neogen publishes new educational resource on ‘Demystifying DNA Technology’

And Beef 2024 was also a great opportunity to promote our new publication “Demystifying DNA Technology” that was produced by our Technical Product Specialist, Andrew Byrne in collaboration with the Animal Genetics Breeding Unit, Sheep Genetics and Angus Australia. Our NSW Territory Manager Hannah Powe spoke about the launch of “Demystifying DNA” on Beef TV on Friday, which can be found here at the 4:55 mark.

There is clearly a thirst for knowledge in the beef industry as this incredible resource was snapped up in a matter of days during Beef! If you would like a digital copy of this resource, you can find it available for download here.

It was an absolute whirlwind of a week, and we would like to thank everyone who stopped by a breed session, our Neogen stand or stopped us to have a chat about how they can utilise DNA technology in their cattle enterprises.
